Hi there, my name is Caris. I am 11 years old and the founder of Kiki’s Charity.
I got to travel to Bangladesh with my grandpa when I was 8 years old. We visited schools in some very poor areas of Dhaka, the capital.
I found out that some kids in Bangladesh can’t go to school because their parents can’t afford to send them. It costs about $8 per month to send one child to school in Dhaka, which doesn’t sound like a lot to us. But for them, it’s really a lot of money.
After meeting kids that couldn’t go to school, I couldn’t stop thinking about what I could do to help.
I was eight years old, and my parents were giving me $8 for my allowance. So I decided that I wanted to give my $8 to pay for a kid in Bangladesh to go to school. And that’s how Kiki’s Charity began.
When I got back home to California, I wanted to invite others to make a difference too. My family used to call me Kiki. So that’s how I came up with the name for this charity.
I talked to the principal of my school, and he let me put up flyers to get support from the students. And he even let me speak in front of the school and tell everyone how they could help kids in Bangladesh for just $8 per month. Many kids in my school decided to support kids in Bangladesh too.
With my grandpa’s help, we now have a team in Bangladesh helping care for the kids and families we support. There is so much need!
Kiki’s Charity is now supporting more than 250 kids in Bangladesh with scholarships. Getting an education is the best way to escape poverty. Studies have proven this. Going to school unlocks many doors of opportunity for a better future.
It doesn’t take much to make a big difference in the life of a kid in Bangladesh. Please join us!
